The Anthony Pettis kick in the final minute of the five-round title match at WEC 53 has created an instant star in the MMA world. You can watch it in the video below; this move has never been seen before in the cage, although I will bet you that it will be seen a lot more now! Particularly when Pattis comes to the UFC, which he has now earned the right to do. He is scheduled to take on the winner of the Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard matchup in the upcoming UFC 125 match. Sometime in 2011, we will get to see Pettis in a UFC match.
According to ESPN, the title match between Pettis and Ben Henderson was very much in doubt in that closing minute of the fifth round, but to my way of thinking, his off-the-cage kick left no doubt as to who was the champion. The judges concurred, scoring it 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46 for Pettis and he took the WEC Lightweight Title away from Henderson.
